Choosing a curriculum can be one of the scariest aspects of homeschooling, both from the overwhelming options, to the pressure to “get it right” in your choice.

Some of the best advice I got starting out was to not sink a ton of money into the curriculum when you start.

Finding your child’s learning style will save you a lot of headaches. Give yourself time to learn about your child, and really research your options.

Another thing, don’t feel locked in. If a curriculum isn’t working, change it. This could be midyear, end of the year, every year, whenever it stops working change it.

How do I know what to teach?

Many times we are asked, “How do I know what to teach in which grade?”.  Many curricula are set up to guide you to age/grade-appropriate levels which is helpful.

In Alabama, you aren’t required to teach a specific thing in certain grade levels, and further, one of the great freedoms of homeschooling is the ability to move your child up and down per their abilities in each subject. It’s very common for a child to be at one grade level in one subject, and another grade in another subject.

The information given here is for you to get an idea, or to help you stay on a guided track if that is important to you.

How to Use

The following Curriculum Finder is a great tool for narrowing down different resources depending on multiple factors such as by age, by subject, and whether the resource is free or not. Keep in mind that the following resources may go through updates where they take away the curriculum or add a new curriculum. If you are aware of these changes, please send us a message and we’ll update them on this website.

NOTE: The Age filter will display resources that include at least 1 age group within that range.

NOTE: The Subject filter is based on a main subject that includes multiple topics. Each website you visit will have at least 1 topic from that subject. Below, you’ll find a list of topics pertaining to each subject.
